The People Concern

  • Volunteer with The People Concern! We offer multiple opportunities for individuals and groups to engage with our program participants in acts of direct service including meal service/preparation, administrative functions, enrichment instruction (creative writing, drum circles, etc.).

  • Volunteer for the Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count! Every January, the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) participates in the nationwide Point-in-Time Homeless Count and Survey, which collects information on the number of individuals and families who are living in shelters or on the streets. The Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count is the largest in the United States. In L.A. County alone, the count requires at least 8,000 volunteers to canvas more than 80 cities and 200 communities across L.A. County.

The Count and demographic survey give a snapshot of who is experiencing homelessness and where they are located. This information helps the City of Los Angeles to measure progress toward addressing homelessness and helps direct resources where they are needed most. In addition, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) tracks the results to determine the amount of federal funds allocated to programs combating homelessness.

When registration for the 2020 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count opens, it will be posted here.
